Number One BS Fact About Photographers Everyone Thinks Is True

The Websters definition of misconception is: A view or opinion that is incorrect because it is based on faulty thinking or understanding. As a professional photographer, I have had the privilege of hearing some really great questions and general misconceptions about me and photographers as a whole. So here is my top 10 BS facts about photographers that everyone swears is true.

Your Camera Takes Great Photos

I hear this one on a daily basis, and just smile and say yes, yes it does. This is number one because it frustrates me the most; our society has so access to amazing point and shoot cameras that are capable of creating beautifully sharp and vivid images. While this is great for the consumer it creates a huge misconception, and devalues professional photographers. There is so much that goes into creating an image that a photographer has to understand, I'll throw just a few items out there that goes into just one, one shot; that every professional photographer is doing and thinking about on the fly to deliver stunning images: ISO, White balance, composition, shutter speed, aperture, exposure, compression, focal length(s).

That's just a few examples, and if you understand what those mean and how it relates to creating a photo that's awesome! If there's not a ton of examples and tutorials on understanding those terms. I'll end with this, it's not the camera or the lens; yes, those are tools to help create the image, but we all know the tools are useless without a person that has the depth of knowledge to use the tools.
